If you follow me over on Instagram, then you will probably know that at the end of July I went to watch Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again! You will know because I did a big Insta Story about how much I loved the film – SPOILER!
I was 16 when Mamma Mia 1 came out and I wasn’t the biggest fan of the film, but as a film on in the background and the soundtrack, it was pretty good. Apart from the cringy singing…
There will be SPOILERS throughout this post…sorry!
My Thoughts on Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
I actually am one of those people who actually thought the story/plot of this film was very very good! If you don’t know what Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is about, then where have you been?
The first Mamma Mia film was all about Sophie trying to figure out who her Father is, out a potential 3 men; whom her Mother Donna had…well…had relations with.
In the present, Sophie has renovated the hotel which Donna owned – after her passing – and is getting ready to open the hotel once again.
If you didn’t already know, Mamma Mia 2 is a prequel as well as a sequel. It starts off with Sophie sending out invites to the reopening of the renovated Hotel which her Mother Donna – who has sadly passed away – used to own.
This film looks at how Donna ended up meeting her 3 men – and Sophie’s potential Father’s – and also how she left the UK in hopes of exploring, ultimately ending up in Greece.
The 2 storylines of the present day (5 years after the 1st film ended) didn’t really affect each other’s story. The story’s flowed perfectly in my opinion and I really enjoyed this style of movie.
The Young Cast
As I mentioned before, there is a prequel element and this is where the new ‘Young’ cast come in. I thought they were all brilliant at their roles of the already established ‘Older’ characters.
Some performances which really stood out to me where Lily James as Donna – obviously, and Jessica Keenan Wynn as a Young Tanya. I thought these 2 actresses’ really picked out key features of the characters, their mannerisms and quirks and played them perfectly!
If you have avoided going to see Mamma Mia 2 because the first film had ‘oh dear’ singing moments, then change that opinion and run to the cinema NOW! The singing in this film is so much better. The young cast really bring so much passion and energy to the ABBA classics and I love it!
However, my favourite song has got to be Angel Eyes. Julie Walters and Christine Baranski are hilarious as they both battle to sing the song. I have always had a soft spot for this song anyway, but this version is just very funny and makes the movie for me.
Mamma Mia! Chiquitita // Mamma Mia! S.O.S // Mamma Mia! Dancing Queen // Mamma Mia! Knowing Me, Knowing You…maybe they will explore who the Father actually is? Who knows if there will be a Mamma Mia 3 or where it will go, but I will be waiting…I. Will. Be. Waiting…
Have you seen Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again?
If so, what did you think about the film? I’d love to know what you thought…
