Hi and welcome to Steph’s World & the Christmas Blogger Q&A Series. There will be 21 Guest Bloggers taking part in this Q&A running up to Christmas day. To learn more about this Series, please see my blogpost called ‘Introduction to the Christmas Blogger Q&A‘. Today we welcome to my lovely friend Gwennan from Twenty Something Meltdown…
Gwennan – Twenty Something Meltdown
I’m Gwennan and I blog over at www.twentysomethingmeltdown.com. I’ve been blogging (at least in this format) for nearly a year now and when I’m not doing that I’m working in my day job as a freelance illustrator. I work from my parents spare room (or office, ya know, glam life) in South Wales, frequently helped by Mildred the cat. Me and Steph have worked together before when she took part in my guest blogging series way back when in sunny July and this feature has given me the BEST excuse to get the Christmas CD on and gush about my love for the festive season.
Question 1 – What is your favourite Christmas memory?
Our family has always been one for tradition so my favourite memory is probably a collection of memories, of things we used to do every year without fail. Things like hearing my parents sneak in to my grandparents house after their works do. Like going to the reindeer parade in my school town wrapped up in hats and scarves. Like my Mum and Dad driving us through different towns on the way home in the dark to see the Christmas lights when they’d gone up. Like after Christmas when we used to be taken to Cardiff to spend our Christmas money and walking along the Castle and counting the gargoyles. I don’t do a lot of those things any more and I’m adamant to start again.
Question 2 – Are there any traditions you have around Christmas time?
Welllll I probably should have read this one before I answered the last one shouldn’t I? The last few years our traditions have changed. My brother has a family and a baby now and we have a lot more people to cater for and think about. This year I am planning on starting new traditions. My boyfriend is a carer and works Christmas day so I’m going to do an early celebration just me and him at home and cook a proper dinner and watch films and decorate the tree. And then on Boxing Day we’re having a second Christmas with my brother and his family and my family and I’m excited for new things and memories.
Question 3 – What is on your Christmas wish list this year?
An iPhone 7? No but if someone’s feeling kind I smashed my phone the other week so it wouldn’t be a bad investment? Right? On my actual Christmas wishlist is a lot of homeware and jewellery and makeup because I’m a basic bitch. We’re renovating our house next year and I’ll have a much bigger kitchen so I’ve asked for alllll the gorgeous home things (and a few cheeky Christmas decorations thrown in for good measure).
Question 4 – Do you like to wear Christmas jumpers, if you do; what is your favourite Christmas jumper?
Yasssss I am all about that Christmas jumper life. I only have one and I will wear it until it basically falls apart. My brother bought it for me a few years ago when he was in uni and was probably the first present he got me off his own back without a little hint of what I might like from my parents. It’s silver grey with a big fluffy penguin on it and I basically live in from Christmas eve to New Years.
Question 5 – Do you like to give presents or receive presents?
Both obvs but giving presents is my favourite favourite thing. It’s so cliché but so true obviously I love having new things but the excitement of giving presents is too much. I spend a lot of time thinking about the perfect gift and putting loads of effort into it and I like buying them early so I have lots of time to get excited about giving them. I also don’t wrap them until the last minute so I can stare at them a bit longer like damnnnn gurl that’s a good present.
Question 6 – Do you like the Christmas goodies such as Mince Pies, Christmas Pudding or the limited edition drinks?
Uhm no. I’m a really bad fussy eater at the best of times and combine that will an allergy that restricts me anyway, I’m not the most adventurous foodwise. I’ll pass on the mince pies, the pudding, the sprouts, the bucks fizz, the eggnog…. Get me the quality street, the Lilt (not a festive drink for every family? No?), the selection boxes…that’s my festive food.
Question 7 – What is your favourite part of Christmas dinner?
Oh flippin eck this ain’t half a hard one. Probably weirdly the gravy? Everything else when you think about it is quite similar to most Sunday Roasts, we even have turkey at Easter too but there’s something about the gravy on Christmas Day that just makes it that bit different. That bit more special. Also turkey sandwiches for Christmas tea are the bizz.
Question 8 – What is your favourite Christmas Song?
I’ve been deliberating this a lot lately, my Dad bought me a new 3 disc CD full of Christmas hits and obviously Mariah and The Pogues and Elton John are up there but at the end of the day I think I have concluded it’s the same choice I always made when I was little.
The Waitresses – Christmas Wrapping is my jam.
Question 9 – Are you taking part in Blogmas or Vlogmas this year?
So I’ve been thinking about this lately and I’m not actually going to commit to anything this year. I upload pretty regularly if not every day anyway so for me it doesn’t feel like anything unusual? I think the whole point of these challenges is to push you to something new so I think I need to come up with someone of my own perhaps? I also don’t want the pressure of blogging the last few days before Christmas and since scheduling has never been my best point, I think I’ll stick to a few things I have planned!
Question 10 – Do you have anything exciting coming up on your blog next year?
A redesign! I don’t know exactly what I want it to be just yet whether it be a redesign of my template and the physical way my blog looks or if I want an overhaul of my content. I just feel like in January it’ll be a year since I started blogging the way I am now and it needs a new lease of life in some capacity. It won’t change, it’ll still be me writing the way I always write but there’ll definitely be something new (when I work out what!)
Thank you to Gwennan for taking part in this Christmas Blogger Q&A Series. Gwennan is such a lovely dear friend of mine who I owe a lot to. She has always been encouraging of me and my blog, and having the opportunity to guest blog for Gwennan so early on into blogging was such an honour. Gwennan is genuinely the nicest blogger I have spoken to and I would like to say thank you for all her support.
