Hi and welcome to Steph’s World & the Christmas Blogger Q&A Series. There will be 21 Guest Bloggers taking part in this Q&A running up to Christmas day. To learn more about this Series, please see my blogpost called ‘Introduction to the Christmas Blogger Q&A‘. Today we welcome Julia from The Part-Time Mermaid…
Julia – The Part-Time Mermaid
Julia Walker is a 20 y/o Austrian currently studying English Literature and Drama at Queen Mary University in London, whose passion it is to blog about her favourite things in life such as Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle and Food. After graduation Julia is planning on becoming a teacher for English as a foreign language, Drama and German.
Question 1 – What is your favourite Christmas memory?
When I was a child, my sister and I used to go skiing on the 24th of December while my mum would prepare the Christmas dinner. In Austria we only celebrate on the 24th, so we get to open the presents on Christmas Eve already. This was always such a magical moment for me, being surrounded by my family, eating cookies in the candle light and playing with our new presents!
Question 2 – Are there any traditions you have around Christmas time?
There used to be tons when I still lived in Austria, now my boyfriend’s family’s traditions have mashed up with mine and I love that! One example is making an advent wreath with four candles and lighting one every Sunday until it’s Christmas! Another tradition my family and my boyfriend’s family share is the annual Christmas baking. Every weekend in December we bake together, sing together and eat together! Once the baking has started, the house is full of Christmas spirit! Last year we started to hand out little bags with Christmas cookies to homeless people in London’s Underground stations. Seeing their happy faces makes your heart flutter!
Question 3 – What is on your Christmas wish list this year?
To be honest I don’t really have one… My boyfriend and I have this tradition to give each other something funny, something classy and something useful every year and I’ve loved every single one of his presents!
Question 4 – Do you like to wear Christmas jumpers, if you do; what is your favourite Christmas jumper?
I absolutely love them and people at Uni probably hate me for already wearing them in October. My boyfriend and I actually have matching ones with little owls sitting on candy canes which we got from his mum.
Question 5 – Do you like to give presents or receive presents?
Obviously I love receiving presents (who doesn’t?) but I always get really into choosing a present, wrapping it up nicely and seeing the person’s happy face, so I’d say I like giving even more!
Question 6 – Do you like the Christmas goodies such as Mince Pies, Christmas Pudding or the limited edition drinks?
I usually do, but I’m not really into Christmas pudding… All the others are perfectly fine though and I love them!
Question 7 – What is your favourite part of Christmas dinner?
I tend to cook a lot of Austrian food on Christmas since I don’t do that during the rest of the year and my English family loves trying new things. One of my favourite foods is a bread dumpling which is traditionally cooked in a napkin and then sliced (I know it sounds gross but trust me it’s amazing) and raclette!
Question 8 – What is your favourite Christmas Song?
Train- Shake up the happiness, Do they know it’s Christmas (Band Aid 30 version) and Santa Clause is coming to town- Bruce Springsteen!
Question 9 – Are you taking part in Blogmas or Vlogmas this year?
There’ll definitely be Christmas themed blog posts, but not daily ones since I’ve got a lot of work to do in Uni at the time as well.
Question 10 – Do you have anything exciting coming up on your blog next year?
Ooh I do! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll likely have noticed that I’m really into Natural cosmetics, so there’s a big project featuring that coming up next year!
